Plating
Zinc (CZ) |
 |
Also known as clear zinc or blue zinc this is the most
popular plating for commercial fasteners. |
Nickel (NI) |
 |
A cosmetically attractive plating, closely resembling
chrome. |
Black Oxide (BW) |
 |
This is a matte black finish, usually applied with
an oil or wax coating to increase oxidation resistance.
Through the years the metal working industry has used
Black Oxide Coating extensively. We use caustic Black
oxide operating at 285f-300f that produces a Black Iron
Magnetite coating. The coating thickness is almost negligible
about 0.0001 inches. Black Oxide has an ability to absorb
a subsequent coating of oil or any other supplementary
preservative treatment. Of the many options available
to any component designer; Black Oxide has served its
purpose extremely well over the years and will continue
to be important to the metal working industry. Process
Specifications: black Oxide-MIL-DTL-13924D |
Black Zinc (BZ) |
 |
This plating is not as attractive as black oxide but has
better resistance to corrosion, and it has a slight sheen
as well. |
Black Phosphate (BP) |
 |
This plating can come in several shades from gray to
black. It has good corrosion resistance and is normally
the plating of choice for drywall screws. Phosphate
with supplementary preservative treatment (Oil or Wax).
Phosphate- MIL-DTL-16232G (HEAVY). Phosphate-TT-C-490
(LIGHT). |
BBL (BB) |
 |
The abbreviation stands for Brass, Burnish
and Lacquer, This is a cosmetic plating,
that is used in the woodworking and furniture industry
in conjunction with hinges and other brass colored items.
|
Yellow Zinc (YZ) |
 |
This plating is similar to BBL, yet less expensive. It
is used in place of BBL when economy is a must. It also
has good corrosion resistance. |
Stat Bronze (SB) |
 |
Also know as antique bronze, or Statutory Bronze, this
plating is similar to an antique copper finish. It is
the color of choice to use in furniture with darker
finishes. |
|
Similar to BBL but with a antique coating to make
it look aged and rustic. |
|
This matt gray to black finish is the natural color
of steel. It is usually oiled to prevent oxidation. |
